Homemade Halloween Costume Ideas
Store bought costumes are expensive for something that will only be worn once. Besides, who wants to be limited by the selection at the department store? It is cheaper, and more fun, to create costumes yourself. Here are some ideas for cool Halloween costumes for all ages.

Cardboard box costumes
One year, my mother cut arm, leg, and head holes in a cardboard box, wrapped the whole thing in brown paper, and glued empty food boxes and containers as if they were poking out of the top, and dressed my sister as a grocery bag. It was cute, and she won the contest at her school for the most original costume. This same concept can be applied to nearly any costume idea. I’ve seen cardboard box Transformers, hot dog vendors, cars and trains, even a hot air balloon. Boxes just beg to be transformed into Spongebob Squarepants.
Duct Tape & Sweatsuits
Yeah, I said it. Duct tape is sold in a variety of colors these days, allowing a sweat suit or outfit to be transformed into a costume, then back again. A white sweatsuit with red duct tape stripes would be a cute candy cane costume. Or a black sweat suit with white duct tape down the back for a skunk. Oh, the possibilities.
Another cute sweat suit costume would be a spider. To make the legs, stuff some cheap black knee-high pantyhose with anything light weight and staple the ends. Pin your legs to a black sweatsuit and you’ve got a spooky spider costume.
Homemade Face Paint
Mix 2 teaspoons cornstarch, 1 teaspoon water, 1 teaspoon cold cream or lotion, and food coloring to make face paint in any color to complete the look.
